Commissioned early in the 20th century by the owner of a country estate in Ireland, this unique and original fountain statue of a water nymph is utterly beguiling, and is presented in its gloriously mossy, lichen-speckled, weathered state. Hand-carved from a single block of Portland stone, her right arm shows a long-forgotten patch repair to its stonework, and the base has a slight crack on its right-hand front corner, barely visible now, after years of exposure to the elements. A dramatic piece, rich in presence and natural, haunting charm.  Return it to being a water feature or simply enjoy it as a wonderfully artistic carving, complete with its masterful maker’s patterned chisel marks.
Dimensions: 95cm overall height x 27.5cm wide at the base x 35cm deep at the base. The nymph herself stands 77cm tall from the base to the crown of her head.
